Satsang
 

Getting together with people who are inspired by the same desire to reach their spiritual goal is an experience that can lift us to a higher state of joyful awareness. We call this spiritual gathering satsang . It is a place where we meet others with the same intention and where the spiritual journey begins. Even in the absence of a spiritual Teacher his energy can be very much present and remains a source of love, inspiration and comfort for all.

Participating in a satsang can intensify energy running through us and we can experience great joy and fulfilment. Our consciousness can be raised and expanded by the energy that is generated while we chant - everything is possible - and our spiritual growth is enhanced and accelerated. Our experience with the Source is intensified and stabilized. With the help of the Source our relationships improve, we learn to cope with disappointments, fears and loneliness, and we are strengthened and become more aware of who we are. One says that life is not easy, which is true, but we can learn from what is occurring in our lives and go with the flow. Changes are a part of life. Nothing is new and not what it appears to be. The universe speaks to us constantly through the circumstances and it is imperative not to allow the situations to lead us, but become masters of our own lives.

During a satsang we get together, chant and meditate, but mostly we sing a great deal together and also listen to the message from the teacher. Chanting is a way of putting our collective energies together. The Guru says: “I do not sing for God, God sings through me.” If we are able to catch a glimpse of this as a spiritual being, then we are on our way to experiencing the bliss. The mantras and bhajans that we chant awaken our inner Spirit, both individually and as a group. Usually the words of the mantras are repeated again and again. Our minds become peaceful and we forget our worries. Chanting keeps our awareness in the moment. It awakens our spiritual being which is felt as an experience of pure ecstacy and deep inner joy.
